Position Description
Position Title: Lead Statistician
Department: Commercial Markets
Direct Report Level: Senior Director
Operating Group Highest Level: Vice President
Location: Lanham, MD
Brief Summary:
Takes the lead role in creating and articulating relevant solutions for clients and in developing methods or processes for implementation. Leads a team of statisticians to execute on solutions developed, and ensures quality of final solution. Will act as a technical expert and mentor for development and implementation of analytical services Company wide.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead in determining appropriate quantitative methods to deliver analytical solutions to clients’ business problems
Analyzes and manages data using SAS, SQL or other languages as required
Implements analytical solutions using the following techniques
• Predictive statistical modeling
• Customer profiling
• Segmentation Analysis
• Survey Design and Analysis
• Data Analysis and Mining
• External Data Enhancement
• Break-Even Analysis
Assists and teaches junior analysts
Assists in presenting ideas and findings to clients
Evaluates and improves internal tools and processes
Completes other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Education: Graduate degree with at least 4 graduate level courses in statistics
Job Experience: 4 or more years in a quantitative field with at least half in the direct marketing field
Quantitative Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply statistical techniques such as linear regression, logistic regression, analysis of variance, cluster analysis, CHAID, CART, principal components, factor analysis to business problems. Ability to apply other quantitative methods such as sampling theory, probability theory and experimental design.
Computing Skills: Strong SAS skills are required, including ability to manage data using BASE SAS and SAS MACRO and to use SAS STAT procedures. SQL is recommended. Knowledge of other statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, Stata, S-Plus, AnswerTree) and/or programming languages (e.g., C++, Visual Basic, etc.) is helpful.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills
Additional Skills: Strong problem solving skills and ability to work both independently and in teams
